Access to Data
The Cape Verde EIS, within its current format both at the institutional and at the technical levels, does not take an environmental data access approach.
Utilization of bibliographic and geographic metadata allow both for the finding of searched information and which procedures to use get them, but the modalities for obtaining the information must be agreed upon between the supplier and the researcher.

An institutional and legal work will be carried out in order to define the modalities of access to data as a function of the nature of the producers, users and data. For example, a public organization may have unlimited access to data of another public organization, at the same time that a private organization may have free access to a category of public data, but a restricted access (payment, exchange, etc...) to another category.
This classification of partners and data can be followed with a computerized data access system through downloading.

Harmonization of Data
The harmonization of data optimizes utilization of environmental information and facilitates its circulation.
Harmonization of formats
In the case of numerical data, the choice of the same format prevents the partners from going through long and difficult conversion processes. The utilization of one format, which implies the choice of one technology, facilitates exchange of knowledge among partners and reduces costs (the same training session may be useful for all partners, or the same programme may be acquired in large amounts ...)
Harmonization of nomenclature
Currently, in accordance with the nature of the institutions, there exist different rules for the requests and classification of environmental information. Some work will need to be done in order to define one single nomenclature, which is approved, accepted and used by all EIS partners.
