The EIS intends to organize and make available a rich, reliable and updated environmental information, favoring its circulation and promoting an interchange platform between the environment actors in Cape Verde. With the objective of reaching the foreseen objectives, a technical architecture was elaborated on the basis of the following considerations:

  • The information society is well developed in Cape Verde, and many of the institutions possess a fast and reliable InterNet connection
  • Thanks to the dynamics mentioned in the previous point, several EIS member partners possess an InterNet site and a strategy for diffusion of their environment information through their website.
  • The different attempts for installation of an environmental information system in Cape Verde have demonstrated that the partners do not appreciate the centralization of environmental data under the responsibility of one single institution, fearing to lose control over the information they produce.

These facts have led to the creation of a flexible technical structure, decentralized and without constraints, proposing needed guidelines for homogenization of diffusion of environmental information.

Thus, in this initial phase, EIS is presented as a network of InterNet sites, where the partner institutions place their information capital through their site and two bibliographic and geographic metadata catalogues.

The set of these sites will be linked to one single EIS portal, the entry point for environmental information in Cape Verde.

The organization is detailed in the following pages:
